You are Going to Love it Here!
Our international students bring a rich diversity of background and life experience to Penn State York.
We invite you to enjoy the stories of two international students, who recently studied at York and have moved on to pursue their continuing education and career goals.
Mohamed El Sonbaty: “Study, learn, and achieve. I love Penn State York.”
Mohamed El Sonbaty chose Penn State to be the place where he pursues an education that will help him make a difference in the world. On the advice of a high school counselor, El Sonbaty decided to attend Penn State York for two years, and begin his Penn State story at a smaller campus with a low student to faculty ratio (2 + 2 Program). That decision had a major impact on his life. He fell in love with the campus and decided to become a Lion Ambassador to share his experiences with other students.
In August 2017, Mohamed moved to the University Park campus to complete a double major, earning degrees in electrical engineering and computer engineering. Read his story.
Urmil Parikh: “We are Penn State! Say it loud and say it with pride.”
Urmil Parikh graduated from Penn State York in December 2017, with a bachelor of science degree in Information Sciences and Technology, and a minor in Business. He is currently employed through Optional Practical Training (OPT) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Urmil credits his technical knowledge, communications skills, and professional networking opportunities to time spent at the York campus.
“It’s a great place to start to explore academic and social opportunities. Since classes are small, there is constant interaction with faculty. The campus has a new fitness center, gym, cafeteria, basketball court, soccer field, badminton court, indoor tennis court, and game room, all conveniently located in or around the student center. It is easy to participate in clubs and student organizations on campus.” Urmil was an orientation leader, and Global Engagement and Leadership (GELE) student leader. He took his first step towards entrepreneurship in the yearly business startup challenge through The Graham Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Studies (The Graham Center) program. He completed his first internship through his academic adviser at the York campus.
“My experience at Penn State York resulted in lifetime relationships with friends, faculty, and the community.”
