Professional Tutoring
The Nittany Success Center offers professional writing and English tutors to assist students with a wide variety of writing projects. We offer recommendations to improve writing skills for English papers, business and technical writing, résumés and cover letters, and lab reports.
We also staff the Online Writing Lab (OWL) where students may submit papers online to obtain professional writing feedback and support. (See tab to the left for link to the OWL and additional information.)
In addition, we offer Drop-in writing hours at the Nittany Success Center for students to get immediate help from an English professor for writing projects. All of these professional services are free.
Academic Coaching
Through the Nittany Success Center, any student can schedule an appointment to meet with an academic coach. An academic coach works with students to identify academic and learning objectives that help achieve college, personal, and professional goals while maximizing opportunities for success.
Students partner with a professional academic coach to develop the student’s full academic potential. Through this collaborative one-on-one process, students will examine their own academic concerns and perceived barriers to learning, while also identifying their learning strengths. Based on this information, an individualized plan is developed with a focus on any of the following:
- Time management
- Organizational skills
- Goal setting
- Methods for notetaking
- Motivation and overcoming procrastination
- Exam preparation, managing test and academic anxiety
- Active reading strategies
- General study skills/strategies
Students can meet weekly or biweekly with their academic coach throughout the entire semester. Each session is individualized to meet each student’s needs. For more information regarding academic coaching or to set up an appointment, please visit the Nittany Success Center or contact us.
Guided Study Groups
The NSC organizes study groups for classes that may be challenging. Study groups can meet weekly or semi-weekly to discuss relevant course material and support one another through engaging conversations. Please visit the Nittany Success Center to discover what courses have study groups already established, or to inquire about setting up a study group for your class.
