Penn State is moving toward a University-wide health insurance requirement for the 2018-19 academic school year. In preparation for the new requirement, University Health Services (UHS) will begin collecting student health insurance information in May 2017.
Trisha Prabhu, the 16-year-old inventor of ReThink, an app that helps prevent cyberbullying, is the featured speaker at "Pathways to Your Future -- Exploring STEAM Careers" set from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 12, at Penn State York. "Pathways to Your Future" offers seventh-grade girls the opportunity to explore a variety of job-related fields in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM).
Graduation is exciting enough, but for Samantha Lynn Crist and Daniel S. Skroly, they are making history by becoming the first graduates in the psychology program at Penn State York. Crist will receive a bachelor of science and Skroly will receive a bachelor of arts during the 47th annual spring commencement on May 5.
Eighty-three students from across Penn State’s campuses will each be awarded a $3,500 Erickson Discovery Grant for summer 2017 through the Office of Undergraduate Education. The students will use the funds to immerse themselves in original research, scholarship, and creative work under the direct supervision of a faculty member.
Twenty outstanding adult students from the area were inducted into the Penn State York Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda during ceremonies on Monday, May 1, at a 5:30 p.m. ceremony in the Community Room of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center. Alpha Sigma Lambda is a national honor society that recognizes the unique achievements demonstrated by adult students in higher education programs.
Late-night Breakfast attendees will be dressing-up as their favorite musical artist or favorite musical genre at this popular end-of-semester event to be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. May 1 at Penn State York. This free event will be held at Rosie’s in the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center.
Penn State York is offering a four-day SAT preparation course July 24-27. The course is from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday in Room 101 of the John J. Romano Administration Building on campus.
Penn State York’s men’s baseball team had to win against Penn State Worthington Scranton in order to advance to the playoffs in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC). The team needed to win one of two games in a doubleheader on April 26. Not only did they win one, York swept the doubleheader and clinched the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Division of the PSUAC.
This spring Penn State expects to award 13,894 diplomas to students University-wide who are completing 226 associate, 11,435 baccalaureate, 1,590 master’s, 262 law, 244 doctoral and 137 medical degrees.
