YORK, Pa. — Penn State York, Fox 43, and the American Red Cross have joined together to ask area residents to bleed for a good cause. The American Red Cross is in need of blood donations, and a community drive is set for Thursday, Aug. 23, at Penn State York. The blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Conference Center of the Main Classroom Building and is open to the public.

“We are extremely proud to be partnering again with Fox43 and the American Red Cross for the third annual community blood drive at Penn State York,” said Dan Puccio, associate director of student affairs and the campus contact for the community blood drive. “This is an important event for our campus and York community as we kick off the new academic year. Fox43 on-air personalities will be visiting throughout the day, and we are hoping for a great turn out from the community as they visit our campus for a great cause. Blood demand is at crucial levels, and we hope to see many campus and community individuals participate so that we can help save many lives.”

According to the American Red Cross, the need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in the local community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every two to three seconds.

In addition to the satisfaction of knowing they have helped someone in need, blood donors will receive a free $5 Amazon.com gift card via email, and a Red Cross T-shirt while supplies last.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood, call the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit the American Red Cross website at redcrossblood.org and enter zip code 17403 under "Find a Blood Drive." Registration is preferred but walk-ins are welcome.
