YORK, Pa. — Helping new students get to know the campus and services available is the goal of the "Start Smart" webinar series via Zoom set to begin on July 9 and continue through Aug. 12.
The Penn State York Student Affairs Office and Advising and Career Development came up with the idea since students do not have the ability to visit the campus this summer due to COVID-19 and the need for social distancing. The first webinar, "10 Easy Ways to Maximize Campus Life," is set for 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 9.
“The idea came from a meeting where we were discussing the aspects of a typical in-person New Student Orientation (NSO) that the incoming students are missing this summer and how we could still try to keep them engaged and get them the valuable information needed before they start classes,“ said Sarah Guillen, associate director of student affairs at Penn State York. “It was a collaborative effort between both of our offices, and the many presenters who represent offices across campus."
Any new student can go online and sign up for one or all of the webinars. There is also a webinar designed for parents. Topics range from campus life to paying for college, navigating the library, and staying focused.
