Anne Vardo-Zalik, associate professor of biology, works with undergraduate students in the biology labs at Penn State York on a regular basis. Vardo-Zalik and colleague Jessica Petko, associate professor of biology, have mentored 54 students in undergraduate research projects over the last decade.
The power of undergraduate research opportunities, student experiences related to clubs and organizations, and the Graham Fellows Program for Entrepreneurial Leadership were discussed during a meeting of the Penn State Board of Trustees Committee on Academic Affairs, Research and Student Life on July 21 at Penn State York.
Carter Williams, a Penn State York student and baseball player, shows off one of the many awards he took home during the athletic awards program. Williams was the recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Academic Character, given to the student-athlete with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher. In addition to an outstanding GPA the recipient must uphold the five core values if the athletics department at Penn State York - accountability, courage, diliogence, integrity, and respect.
Graham candidates (Penn State York students in the Graham Fellows Program for Entrepreneurial Leadership) network with Graham Fellows Program corporate partners and share their elevator pitches, practice introductions, handshakes, and meet potential internship providers and employers as part of the Corporate Partners Networking event. In addition to the networking event, students participate in a variety of workshops to help prepare them for their future careers.
Penn State York is offering a an evening workshop for educators facing the challenges of remote teaching. The four-hour workshop, offered Aug. 10 and 12, is via Zoom.B
