Advantages to Starting at Penn State York

Experience Penn State York!

It gives me great pleasure to extend my congratulations to you on your recent acceptance to Penn State York. You should be proud of your accomplishment.

The York campus community, including faculty, staff, students and alumni, stands ready to help you to achieve your academic and career goals, whether you plan to complete your degree program at our campus or move on to another Penn State location after two years (2 + 2 program). There are so many reasons why the York campus is a great place to begin your Penn State education:

Small Class Sizes: The average class size at Penn State York is fifteen students. The student/faculty ratio is 14:1. At the York campus, you will receive the individual attention and mentoring that you need to help you succeed academically.

The Graham Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Studies (The Graham Center): As a Graham Fellow, you will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including mock interviews, résumé reviews, professional presence and dining etiquette training, The Graham Speaker Series, networking events, and opportunities for internships.

Free Advising and Career Services: Take advantage of free services such as career assessments and planning tools through MyPlan.com, résumé/cover letter reviews, job and internship search assistance, invitations to networking events and career fairs, mock (practice) interview sessions, and access to the Nittany Lion Career Network, Penn State’s primary resource for connecting students with employers.

Free Tutoring Services at the Nittany Success Center: In addition to one-on-one tutoring sessions scheduled around your class commitments, The Nittany Success Center provides resources to help you improve your study skills in the areas of note-taking, time management, and test-taking strategies.

$13.5 Million Renovation and Addition to the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center (completed in October of 2016): Athletic, recreation, student club and food service spaces have been enhanced and updated, and teaching spaces revitalized for an entirely new learning and connection experience for our students!

If you have not yet had an opportunity to visit our campus, please plan to do so in the near future. I look forward to welcoming you to the Penn State family. Again, congratulations on your offer of admission to Penn State York.

Sincerely,

David W. Chown, Ph.D.
