What is the 2 + 2 Program?

Beginning your Penn State education at the Penn State York campus will provide you with the experience and connections you need to pursue your career goals, whether you choose to finish your degree program at York, or transition to University Park or another Penn State campus in your junior and senior years of study through Penn State’s 2 + 2 program.

2 + 2 Program

Penn State University is made up of twenty campuses, located throughout the state of Pennsylvania: the largest of which is the University Park campus (more than 40,000 students). About 60 percent of all first-year students at Penn State start at a campus other than University Park then finish their degree at University Park or another Penn State campus. This process is called the 2 + 2 program; students spend 2 years at one campus, and 2 years at another campus of their choice to finish their degree program.

You have been accepted to Penn State York for your first two years of study. At Penn State York, you will complete the basic courses required of first- and second-year students for more than 160 majors. After completing your first two years of study here, you then have the option to move to another Penn State campus, including University Park, to finish your degree, or you can stay at Penn State York to earn one of ten different degree programs offered at our campus.

There is no additional application required for you to move to the University Park campus after spending your first two years at Penn State York. As long as you maintain the grade point average you need to enter into your degree program while you are here, you can spend your junior and senior years of study there! It may interest you to know that most of the international students who start at the Penn State York campus move to the University Park campus for their junior and senior years of study.

We are ALL Penn State!

Remember – we are one University in twenty locations; students graduating from ANY of our campuses earn a diploma from The Pennsylvania State University.
