Our Mission

The Advising and Career Development office empowers our diverse student community to develop and implement strategies that will help them be successful in achieving their academic and career goals.

Academic Advising

Overview

All students at Penn State are assigned an academic adviser who is a full-time faculty member or professional adviser. Advisers help students develop an appropriate plan of study for their academic and career goals.

Meeting with Your Academic Adviser

It is each student’s responsibility to contact, and meet with, their academic adviser regularly. The contact information for each student’s adviser is located in the LionPATH Student Center and can also be found in the campus directory or in the adviser list.

Career Development

Overview

All students are encouraged to be proactive in their career planning and begin the exploration process early in order to fully take advantage of the resources at Penn State. Here is a basic list of the services we offer:

  • Career Week and networking events
  • Information about career fairs
  • Individual mock interviews (in-person and online)
  • Information about effective use of social media

Assessments

Focus2Career offers online assessment tools and resources that can help you focus your academic and career planning. Focus2Career is free to Penn State York students and alumni. Call 717-771-4053 for more information.

Nittany Lion Careers (NLC)

As Penn State’s online job and internship database, NLC is used by students at all campuses.

LionLink

This networking program helps both students and alumni who are exploring careers, connect with Penn State alumni who can provide valuable insight and advice.

InterviewPrep

InterviewPrep provides video based mock interviews so that students and alumni are able to practice for upcoming job or internship interviews. Call 717-771-4053 for more information.
