Exploring STEAM Careers (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics)
7th Grade Program Overview
Pathways to Your Future: Exploring Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Careers is a career awareness program aimed at 7th-grade girls, but all 7th-grade students are eligible to participate. This free program introduces students to professionals from academia, medicine, government agencies, business, and industry for a day of workshops and discussion. It also provides teachers with information to guide students toward career opportunities in STEAM fields.
10th Grade Program Overview
Our Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Pathways program for 7th-grade students celebrated its 25th anniversary last school year. Thanks to the generous support of the York County Community Foundation, we are expanding the program to include workshops for 10th-grade students in 2023. Studies show that although many students gain an interest in STEM subjects at age 11, they then lose interest by age 15. Our goal for expanding the program to include workshops for 10th-grade students is to combat this trend.
The 10th-grade program will feature an exciting keynote speaker, interactive workshops, and insight into the college application process. Staff at the event will help students find resources to attend the university/college of their choice and learn more about the application process in general. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with Penn State York faculty members and ask questions about financial aid, career and advising, and other resources available to students at Penn State York.
