Campus to celebrate Chinese New Year, the year of the dog, Feb. 20

It’s the year of the dog and Penn State York is celebrating Chinese New Year on Tuesday, Feb. 20 from 12-1 p.m., with a variety of activities, food, and more. The festivities, in the Conference Center of the Main Classroom Building, are free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by the Penn State York Diversity Committee and the Multicultural Club.
Advising Award 2016-17

Penn State York seeks advising award nominees

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2017-18 Penn State York Advising Award. Students may submit nominations for the award which is presented at the Academic Awards Program in April of each year. Nominations that were previously submitted during the fall 2017 semester will be combined with nominations for spring 2018, and a winner will be selected. Deadline is March 5.

Campus to host York County Science and Engineering Fair, March 5-7

Penn State York will host the 35th annual York County Science and Engineering Fair beginning Monday, March 5, through Wednesday, March 7, in the Conference Center of the Main Classroom Building. More than 200 projects will be judged during the event. Projects will be open for public viewing from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on March 7.

Helping other people, making a difference, the experience of meeting new people, stepping out of their comfort zone, sharing a meaningful goal, and putting spring break to good use are just some of the reasons given by Penn State York students about to travel to Texas, the Beaumont and Port Arthur areas, devastated by Hurricane Harvey.

Penn State York Benefiting THON raises more than $13,000

Penn State York Benefiting THON took part in THON 2018, Feb. 16–18 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus, and raised $13,887.33. The THON total, combining all fundraising efforts from throughout the University, was $10,151.663.93.

Basketball teams wrap up successful 2017-18 seasons

Penn State York’s men’s and women’s basketball teams closed out their seasons with trips to the playoffs. The women’s team made the playoffs for the first time in four years but were knocked out by Penn State Schuylkill, 69-44. The Lady Lions improved their conference record to 9-5 from 4-10 just a year ago. The Penn State York men’s team made it to the semifinals but lost to Penn State Brandywine, 80-68. Their conference record was 12-4.

Information session focuses on graduate program for educators at Penn State York

Teachers and others in the education field can learn more about the master of education in teaching and curriculum degree, graduate courses, certificate options, and summer institutes for educators offered at Penn State York during the Graduate Information Night set for March 15. The free program, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the rehearsal room of the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center, is open to the public.

Lance Strate to share thoughts on media ecology and its impact on the world

“Amusing, Informing, and Amazing Ourselves to Death: Contemplating the Technological Tempest of our Times,” will be the topic when Lance Strate, a media ecologist from New York's Fordham University, speaks on March 14 at Penn State York. This free presentation, set for noon in the Community Room of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center, is open to the public.

Students accomplish variety of tasks during alternative spring break in Texas

Penn State York students participating in an alternative spring break this week in Texas have shared a few photos as their experience is coming to a close. The York group, consisting of 10 students and two chaperones, joined students and staff from five other Penn State campuses for a week of disaster-relief work in areas ravaged by Hurricane Harvey.
