Penn State York students work at DreamWrights in York.

York Community Service 1

Giving back to the community was part of New Student Orientation (NSO) at Penn State York on Saturday, Aug. 20. At DreamWrights, a center for community arts for people of all ages in York, students worked on props, moved materials, and learned more about the organization. The campus plans to continue to include community service as part of NSO in the future.

The Serenity Garden of Hope in York received some TLC from Penn State York students as part of the community service component of New Student Orientation. In addition to scrubbing the bricks surrounding the garden, students also weeded and cleaned up the area.

Helping to get things organized, Ashley Powell, a new student at Penn State York from Baltimore, Maryland, took part in community service efforts as part of New Student Orientation. Powell, along with other volunteers, worked at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in York.

Showing off their painting skills, Penn State York students painted the walls, doors and other areas at the York Rescue Mission. This group, in a narrow hallway, took a break to stretch their legs and smile for the camera. Some students also worked outside picking up trash and other debris on the city streets surrounding the mission.

DePasquale's television commercials when he visited their class on Sept. 14.  Jon Price, instructor in history and political science and Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) adviser, invites elected officials from both partiies to visit his classes and share their experiences.

York School Supplies Collection 2016

Pencils, pens, paper, calculators, erasers,  glue, notebooks and other items can be dropped off in collection boxes located throughout the campus through Sept. 30.   School supplies are being collected by the Penn State York Council on Family Relations (CFR), and the Human Development and Family Studies Affiliate Program Group (APG) of the Penn State York Alumni Society, and will be given to homeless children through Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness.
