Get ready for the new SAT with prep course at Penn State York

Penn State York’s SAT preparation course is designed to help high school students prepare for the new SAT, which begins in March 2016. The four-session course will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays beginning Jan. 23 in Room 112 of the Edward M. Elias Science Building.

Penn State York will honor the veterans on campus during a lunch on Nov. 11 — Veterans Day — in the rehearsal room of the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center. Faculty, staff and students are invited to show their support for veterans, enjoy a free lunch, and hear from a panel of military veterans about their experiences.

Jennifer Nesbitt, an associate professor of English at Penn State York, isn’t just a fan of the popular PBS series “Downton Abbey,” she is considered an expert. Penn State York has once again been named a Military Friendly School, by Victory Media, the leader in successfully connecting the military and civilian worlds. This is the third consecutive year York has earned this designation in recognition of their outstanding work with veterans.

Libraries archivist presents 'Queering Penn State History'

Penn State Archivist Doris Malkmus will be traveling to Penn State campuses this fall to present “Queering Penn State History.” Using a game setting and primary sources from The Eberly Family Special Collections Library, she will help attendees discover the tumultuous history of Penn State’s first gay student organization, circa 1968–1974. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Penn State York hosts events to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

Penn State York will celebrate the life and work of the late Martin Luther King Jr. with events and displays, during the week of Jan. 20 to 24. Beginning Monday, Jan. 20, posters featuring and illustrating some of King’s most memorable quotes will hang on the walls of buildings throughout the campus. The posters, designed by members of the Penn State York Diversity Committee, will help remind readers of King’s work. Also throughout the week, a selection of books, videos and electronic items about King and his efforts will be on display in the Lee R. Glatfelter Library on campus. All programs are free and open to the public.
