Spanish course offers language tips and a look at Latino culture

Penn State York is offering a 20-hour Spanish course designed to help prepare students to talk with members of the Spanish-speaking community. This noncredit course begins Wednesday, June 6, and continues each Wednesday through Aug. 15, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Penn State York is offering Spanish 1, a noncredit course,  beginning June 6 at the campus.  Class will take place in Room 112 of the John J. Romano Administration Building.

Penn State York will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Unity Day from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in the campus conference center. A fashion show, information tables, international foods, and a variety of other exhibits are a part of the day, which is free and open to the public.

The winning Unity Week T-shirt design for 2018 was created by Garrett Scott Mellinger, a Penn State York student.  His design was selected from among 16 entries.

In spring 2017, Penn State York's Penn Players took to the stage for two short one-act plays, “SELFIE” and “AFTERMATH.” Their fall performance of “The Complete History of America (abridged),”  is set for Dec. 5 and 6 in the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center (The Pullo Center) on campus.  The performances, at 6 p.m., are free and open to the public.

Sugar-skull decorating highlights York's Mexican Day of the Dead program Oct. 31

Learn more about the Mexican Day of the Dead and decorate a sugar skull on Tuesday, Oct. 31, when Penn State York offers a look at this holiday celebration. There will be plenty of colorful paint and a variety of other items to decorate a sugar skull from noon to 1 p.m. in the community room of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center.

Celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, Oct. 19 at Penn State York

Paint a diya, a clay candle holder; see colorful decorations; enjoy Indian snacks; and listen to music during the Diwali celebration set for 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, in the conference center of the Main Classroom Building at Penn State York. The event is sponsored by the Penn State York Multicultural Club and the Student Activity Fee.
