Candlelight vigil for child abuse awareness set for April 5 at Penn State York

Penn State York students in the Council on Family Relations (PSY-CFR) Club, and members of other human development and family studies (HD FS) classes are preparing for the seventh annual candlelight vigil for child abuse awareness set for Thursday, April 5 at the campus. The vigil takes place at 5:30 p.m., but other programming and information will be available beginning at 4 p.m. as part of the weekly Coffee Hour on campus.

Diabetes Expo York 2018

Penn State York students to conduct research at Diabetes Expo on campus

Penn State York students in the human development and family studies program will be conducting self-report survey research during the Diabetes Expo that will be held on campus from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 24. The free event, open to the public, is sponsored by the Diabetes Coalition of York, and will be held in the conference center of the Main Classroom Building.

Portraying Norma Desmond, Anne Vardo-Zalik, associate professor of biology at Penn State York, brought the house down with an amazing performance of "With One Look," from "Sunset Boulevard" at last year's Paw Search.  Paw Search 2018 is set for Jan. 12 with auditions scheduled for Dec. 1 from 1-4 p.m., and Dec. 4 from 4-8 p.m.  This event is a fundraiser for Penn State York Benefiting THON with proceeds going to help children and their families battling pediatric cancer.

Don Graham, York business leader, philanthropist, and longtime supporter of Penn State York, has made a major gift to advance entrepreneurship and economic development at the campus and in the community. Graham’s gift will provide a dedicated building on campus for The Graham Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Studies (The Graham Center), which his support helped to found in 2013.

Free Hugs Project comes to Penn State York Aug. 28

Ken E. Nwadike, peace activist and creator of the Free Hugs Project, kicks-off Penn State York’s free cultural series on Monday, Aug. 28, in the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center (The Pullo Center) on campus. Nwadike will spend the afternoon interacting with students, and the day concludes with his performance at 7 p.m., which explores how to overcome the differences that divide us.

The drive, a partnership between the campus, the American Red Cross and Fox 43, will be held this year from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 24 in the Conference Center of the Main Classroom Building at Penn State York.
