HARRISBURG, Pa. – Penn State Mont Alto, Penn State York and HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, are partnering to provide more opportunities for graduates of HACC who want to continue their education and pursue a bachelor’s degree.

On June 26, on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus, HACC President John J. “Ski” Sygielski, Penn State Mont Alto Chancellor Francis K. Achampong, and Penn State York Chancellor David W. Chown signed articulation agreements for HACC programs, including: biology, business administration, communications, general studies, humanities, languages and the arts, health care management, psychology and social science.

These agreements allow graduates with a HACC associate degree to enroll in a parallel Penn State Mont Alto or Penn State York program, thus maximizing the students’ transferable credits.

“HACC is committed to maximizing our students’ ability to transfer to local four-year schools to complete their education," said Kathleen Doherty, associate provost for HACC. "Penn State York and Penn State Mont Alto are natural partners given their proximity to our York and Gettysburg campuses. This partnership allows our students to transfer seamlessly and hit the ground running as a junior when they arrive at these campuses."

Penn State Mont Alto offers five parallel programs, including Bachelor of Science degrees in business, health policy and administration, human development and family studies, information sciences and technology, and letters, arts and sciences.

At Penn State York, the agreements allow HACC transfer students to move seamlessly into nine programs: biology, business (including an accelerated option for adult learners), communication arts and sciences, English, human development and family studies, information sciences and technology, psychology (Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science) and science.

Students enrolling as a junior at either Penn State campus will have access to all of the resources of Penn State.

“We are pleased to partner with Penn State York to establish the articulation agreements with HACC," said Michael Doncheski, Penn State Mont Alto chief academic officer. "We have a solid relationship with HACC and see many of their graduates who transfer to Penn State Mont Alto to complete their bachelor’s degrees. The articulation agreements further solidify our relationship with HACC and will make it even easier for HACC graduates to transfer to Penn State Mont Alto. We all work to provide the greatest opportunities in higher education to the students in south-central Pennsylvania and these articulation agreements are a benefit for the students."

“I am delighted to see our collective desire to collaborate come to fruition," said Francis Achampong, Penn State Mont Alto chancellor. "This is a ‘win-win’ for HACC, Penn State Mont Alto, Penn State York and the students who will benefit from these articulation agreements."

“The articulation agreements with HACC will provide improved access for students to further their education in York and the surrounding area,” said Chown. “Students will be able to better plan their academic careers and move seamlessly from one institution of higher education to another.”
