Paw Search 2017

Portraying Norma Desmond, Anne Vardo-Zalik, associate professor of biology at Penn State York, brought the house down with an amazing performance of "With One Look," from "Sunset Boulevard" at last year's Paw Search.  Paw Search 2018 is set for Jan. 12 with auditions scheduled for Dec. 1 from 1-4 p.m., and Dec. 4 from 4-8 p.m.  This event is a fundraiser for Penn State York Benefiting THON with proceeds going to help children and their families battling pediatric cancer.

Be committed and hold yourself accountable was advice from Becky Halstead, retired Brigadier General, United States Army, who shared her thoughts on leadership during a breakfast presentation entitled Inspiring Courageous Leadership on Nov. 8 at Penn State York.  The program was part of The Graham Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Studies Speaker Series, and was sponsored  by the center and BAE Systems.

Patrick Leeper, president of the York Chapter of the Student Veterans of America (SVA), left, and Shane Hess, a member of the SVA, put together the collection boxes for the Toys for Tots campaign on campus.  Both Leeper and Hess are Penn State York student-veterans and are majoring in information sciences and technology (IST).  The toy collection continues through Dec. 9.

Jimmy Clark, cancer survivor and host of Poker with Jimmy, smiles for the camera with the 2016 Poker with Jimmy winners, left to right, Shane Reilly, third place; Julie Gunter, first place; and  Erik Althoff, second place.  Last year's event raised more then $8,000 for THON and ultimately went to Four Diamonds at the Penn State Hershey Children Hospital to help children and their families battling pediatric cancer.  The poker tournament is not a pay for play event, donations are accepted and this is Clark's way of giving back for the help he received during his battle with cancer.

Penn State York students celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights. As part of the celebration, participants can paint clay candle holders called Diyas. The campus celebration is set for 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, in the conference center of the Main Classroom Building, and is being held as part of the campus' Coffee Hour.
