Crowds gathered for robotics competition at Penn State York

Robots were in action on Saturday, Jan. 27, at Penn State York when 36 teams of middle and high school students from across Pennsylvania, and one from New Jersey, took part in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) South Central PA Regional Qualifier, a daylong robotics competition. The event took place in the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center at York campus.

First Capital Drumline brought the house down with a rousing performance of “Can-O-Saurus,” and ultimately took first place at Paw Search 2017, a talent and variety show sponsored by Penn State York Benefiting THON. "An Evening with Coach Bob Hurley Sr." is set for Saturday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center.  Hurley will share his life story and answer questions concerning his successful career coaching basketball.

Penn State York celebrated Constitution Day with a trivia event on Sept. 18, and while the group was small, those who attended had an opportunity to test their knowledge of U.S. history and have some fun. Valerie Carrington, a Penn State York student majoring in English, was the winner of a bucket of patriotic prize items, and a Starbucks gift card.

Penn State York's new women's volleyball coach is all about building confidence

Dana Vandergrift, Penn State York’s head women’s volleyball coach, is a firm believer in building confidence in her players; there’s no room for negativity. Vandergrift, and her 13-member squad, opens the 2017 season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Penn State Schuylkill. York’s home opener is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, against Penn State Mont Alto.

Campus to host York County Science and Engineering Fair March 6-8

Penn State York will host the 34th annual York County Science and Engineering Fair from March 6-8 in the Conference Center of the Main Classroom Building. About 200 projects will be judged during the event. Projects are open for public view from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on March 8.
