Information Sciences and Technology (IST) Certificate (12 Credits)

This certificate is designed to teach critical skills and knowledge in the areas of information technology and information management. The foundation course, IST 110 is the prerequisite for all others. The courses in this certificate should be completed before pursuing the Software Development or the Fundamentals of Enterprise Integration certificates.

IST Certificate for Business (15 Credits)

This certificate program is intended to upgrade knowledge in the areas of development and administration of information systems for business and industry. Students will learn to use a commercial database management system through group assignments and projects, and other performance indicators. Course work includes information processing and analytic perspectives of organizations. There is also an introduction to the role of information systems and technologies in achieving a variety of system goals. Emphasis will be placed on the theories and skills required for planning, developing, implementing, and managing the integration of information technology and different systems.

Software Development (12 Credits)

This 12-credit certificate is designed to provide a solid programming foundation that prepares students to develop, test, implement and maintain the software applications that are used daily on computers, mobile devices and game consoles. Participants will learn basic algorithm development in C++ and continue with object oriented application development in Java. Credits in this certificate can be applied to Penn State IST degrees in addition to providing practical knowledge for entry level positions in software development. All course prerequisites must be satisfied.

Fundamentals of Enterprise Integration (9 Credits)

This 9-credit certificate provides skills that help differentiate students in the marketplace. The certificate is valuable for those interested in career fields such as business/systems analyst, project management, IT consulting, or supply chain management. SAP is the world’s largest enterprise application software company. The series of courses allows students to gain a valued credential from Penn State and also meet the requirements for the SAP Student Recognition Award from SAP University Alliances. All course prerequisites must be met and courses should be taken in the order shown. Due to specific course content, all of these courses must be completed at Penn State York.
